Blackened Chainmail Aventail, ID 8mm

An aventail is a piece of chain mail, which in the Middle Ages was fastened to the helmet for additional neck and shoulder protection. Favoured helms were for example the nasal helmet, but most notably the late medieval bascinet or one of its versions, the houndskull or pig-face helm.

This chainmail aventail is made from blackened, 1.6 mm strong, butted steel rings. It features an authentic jagged edge and is furnished with a sturdy, approx. 4.5 cm wide leather stripe at the top edge. Here you can stamp the holes for fixing with a hole punch.
