Early Great Helmet, Crusader Pot Helm with Brass Fittings, 13th C., 1.2 mm Steel
The high medieval helmet we offer here is a reproduction of a so-called enclosed helmet as worn by crusaders / Knights Templar in the late 12th and early 13th centuries. It is considered as the forerunner of the Great Helm or Great Heaume and thus also referred to as a primitive or early great helm.
This beautiful medieval helmet is based on an illustration added to the illuminated Westminster Psalter around 1250 and attributed to the English Benedictine monk Matthew Paris (1200-1259). It is crafted from 1.2 mm steel, adorned with a brass cross and crown, and features approx. 8 cm long, 1 to 1.5 cm wide eye-slits as well as numerous cutouts for proper ventilation. The component parts of the knight's helmet are all connected by steel rivets.
The blackened interior is fitted with an adjustable padded liner made of cotton fabric. The 3 mm thick brown leather chin strap is adjustable and closes with an antiqued brass buckle.
This fine, fully wearable knightly helm will make your transformation into a proud knight just perfect. Of course, it will also make a great decorative addition to any helmet collector's treasure chamber.
Details:
- Material: 1.2 mm high carbon steel, padded cotton inlay, leather straps with brass buckles
- Suitable for head circumference up to approx. 69 cm
- Long distance (back to front): approx. 24 cm
- Short distance (ear to ear): approx. 20 cm
- Height: approx. 30 cm (front) / 15 cm (back)
- Weight: approx. 2.7 kg
