Medieval Arm Protection, 14th. c.,
Couters with Vambraces and Rerebraces, 1.6 mm Steel
This wearable, fully articulated reconstruction of a late medieval arm armour as worn in the 14th century is crafted from 1.6 mm thick steel and blackened on the inside for better corrosion resistance. It is designed to protect the forearms, elbows and upper arms.
The arm protection consists of a couter or cowter (also known as an elbow cop), a two-piece (hinged) tubular vambrace or lower cannon for the forearm and a short, gutter-shaped rerebrace or upper cannon for the upper arm, all connected together by two sliding plates or lames that allow for proper freedom of movement. At the back, each arm is equipped with three adjustable leather straps with brass buckles for a comfortable, custom fit. An additional leather strap with buckle is riveted onto the upper edge of the rerebrace for proper attachment to a shoulder piece (pauldron) or a gambeson.
Equally suited for historical re-enactment, LARP or costuming, these articulated armguards are ideal for late medieval and Renaissance settings and will make your portrayal of a proud knight just perfect!
Sold as a pair.
Details:
- Material: 1.6 mm steel, leather straps, brass buckles
- Overall length: approx. 38 cm
- Weight (pair): approx. 2.7 kg
Specs may slightly vary from piece to piece.
