Medieval Leg Protection, Cuisses and Poleyns, 14th. c., 1.6 mm Steel
This wearable, fully articulated reconstruction of a late medieval leg armour as worn in the 14th century is crafted from 1.6 mm thick steel and blackened on the inside for better corrosion resistance. It is designed to protect the legs from the thighs to the upper shins.
The leg protections consist of poleyns (knee caps, also known as genouilleres), cuisses and short greaves connected together by two sliding plates that allow for proper freedom of movement. At the back, each leg is equipped with adjustable leather straps with brass buckles for a comfortable, custom fit. An additional leather strap is riveted onto the upper edge of the cuisse for proper attachment to a belt.
Equally suited for historical re-enactment, LARP or costuming, these articulated leg guards are ideal for late medieval and Renaissance settings and will make your portrayal of a proud knight just perfect!
Sold as a pair.
Details:
- Material: 1.6 mm (16 ga), leather straps, brass buckles
- Overall length: approx. 45 cm
- Width of opening at thigh: approx. 16 cm
- Width of opening at shin: approx. 13 cm
- Dimensions of knee caps: approx. 14 x 12 cm (depth approx. 9 cm)
- Dimensions of the side wings: approx. 14 x 11 cm
- Weight (pair): approx. 2.9 kg
Specs may slightly vary from piece to piece.
To ensure that this armour is the right fit for you, please remember to take your measurements over your gambeson and/or any piece of clothing or chainmail you may plan to wear underneath!
The steel used here is not rust-proof and might show slight surface tarnishing in places. We recommend you to maintain plate armour on a regular basis, for example using Ballistol Universal Oil, which is ideally suited for steel care.
