Perfect for DIY shield projects.
The square shield boss (so-called umbo) we offer here is the perfect accessory for ambitious re-enactors who wish to build their own Roman shield. It is ideal as a replacement or spare part for a Roman legionary scutum, but is of course also perfectly suited for other DIY shield projects. This sturdy, quality, yet good value boss can be combined with a wide range of Roman shields, but its elegant simplicity also makes it suitable for shields of the Middle Ages.
Our umbo is handcrafted from approx. 1.6 mm thick steel, blackened on the reverse side for better corrosion resistance, and features four pre-drilled holes. The corners are slightly rounded.
The base of the boss is straight. Before assembly to a curved shield, it should be bent to fit the curvature of the shield. Mounting hardware is included in the delivery.
Order this hand-made shield boss now, and get started on your new do-it-yourself adventure!
The steel used here is not rust-proof and might show slight surface tarnishing in places. We recommend you to maintain shield bosses on a regular basis, for example using Ballistol Universal Oil, which is ideally suited for steel care.
Specs may slightly vary from piece to piece.

Robustes Material, etwa 2mm dick
Ein sehr robuster Schildbuckel, deutlich dicker als 1,6mm, eher schon um die 2mm. Wurde gut eingeölt geliefert.
