Perfect for DIY shield projects.

The square shield boss (so-called umbo) we offer here is the perfect, authentic accessory for ambitious re-enactors who wish to build their own Roman shield. It is ideal as a replacement or spare part for a Roman legionary scutum, but is of course also perfectly suited for other DIY shield projects. The elegant simplicity of this sturdy, quality, yet good value boss makes it easy to combine with a wide range of Roman shields.

Our umbo is crafted from approx. 1 mm thick brass, blackened on the reverse side for better corrosion resistance, and features four pre-drilled holes. The corners are slightly rounded.

The base of the boss is straight. Before assembly to a curved shield, it should be bent to fit the curvature of the shield. Mounting hardware is included in the delivery.
