This elegant Viking Age lamellar belt is modeled after archeological finds from the Swedish island of Gotland. Based upon several original Gotlandic examples, it has been kept as historically authentic as possible. Similar Viking belts or belt parts have also been found - among others - in Birka/Björko (Sweden) and in the Baltic region (Estonia, Latvia). Such belts were usually closed with a loop ("knotted") so that the strap end hung freely on the front.

The approx. 3.5 cm wide lamellar belt we offer here is crafted from sturdy, 3 mm thick vegetable tanned leather and adorned with brass fittings with copper accents. The strap going around the waist is fitted with antiqued brass platelets (so-called lamellae or lames, hence the name) which are riveted onto the leather.

This fine early medieval leather belt is a classy addition to any Viking garb and an ideal accessory for re-enactment events and LARP gatherings.

As leather is a natural product, variations in colour and grain are quite normal. Each item is thus unique, and above pictures are for reference only.

The buckle and brass fittings may show a slight patina or surface tarnishing in places. We recommend you to maintain them on a regular basis, for example using Ballistol Universal Oil, which is ideally suited for steel and brass care.
