Tinker Early Viking Sword - Sharp

Michael 'Tinker' Pearce has designed a series of swords made by Hanwei in 5160 steel, which emphasise authenticity, functionality and performance.

To satisfy the sparring and cutting needs of Western Martial Artists, each of the 7 styles are made in live (sharp) and sparring (blunt) versions and each sword has outstanding handling characteristics. The carefully controlled heat-treating of 5160 steel (Tinker's blade steel of choice) by the marquenching process produces an excellent combination of toughness and flexibility at a hardness of HRC 50-52, allowing for superior edge retention on the sharps, anti burr and tip-flexing safety features on the blunts. While not a direct copy of any particular sword, the Viking sword design was inspired by historical examples from the early 9th century, most notably finds from Trondheim, Norway, where the circular indentation hilt decoration was popular. The scabbard is provided with suspension points and a period chape, giving the sheathed sword a very attractive appearance.

The construction of the Viking swords differs from other ones in the Tinker series as much as they are tang-riveted (peened) in period fashion re-enactment requirements, and the blunt blade is very much directed towards re-enactment rather than sparring. However, as with the other swords in the series, replacement blades are available for those with the knowledge to undertake the task of removing and replacing peened blades. The handling characteristics of both sharp and blunt versions are virtually identical.

Überlegenes Schwert für den Preis

Mein Schwert, das rund 400€ gekostet hat, hat bereits mehrere Schnitttests bestanden. Egal ob Bambusrohr, Fleisch oder Tatami Matten, es hat alles tadellos durchtrennt. Ausgeliefert wurde es nicht besonders scharf, aber mit Schleifsteinen konnte ich die Klinge extrem schärfen. In Bezug auf die Verarbeitung gibt es nichts zu beanstanden, außer dass die Scheide nicht den gleichen hochwertigen Eindruck macht wie das Schwert. Ich habe auch noch ein ähnliches, aber teureres Wikingerschwert. Beide sind in Gewicht und Handhabung vergleichbar und leisten dasselbe. Bei Hanwei braucht man etwas Glück, um ein perfekt verarbeitetes Schwert zu bekommen.

Tolles Schwert

Ein wirklich schönes Schwert, sehr gut verarbeitet und die Klinge ist absolut gerade und wackelt nicht. Eine etwas bessere Polierung wäre wünschenswert, aber insgesamt bin ich sehr zufrieden.

Ein erstklassiges Schwert!

Mein Schwert hat rund 400€ gekostet und bewältigte bereits zahlreiche Schneidetests, einschließlich 12 cm Bambusrohr, hälftiger Sau (aufgrund unterbrochener Kühlkette nicht mehr für den Verkauf geeignet) und einer festen Rolle aus Tatami Matten. Es wurde nicht besonders scharf geliefert, aber mit 800-5000 Schleifsteinen habe ich die Klinge extrem scharf gemacht. In puncto Verarbeitung gibt es absolut nichts zu bemängeln. Allerdings bin ich mit der Scheide nicht ganz zufrieden, da sie im Vergleich zum Schwert weniger hochwertig wirkt. Ich besitze noch ein weiteres Wikingerschwert aus einer Schmiede in Schweden, das optisch, gewichtsmäßig und handlich sehr ähnlich ist, jedoch mit rund 1000€ deutlich teurer war. Beide Schwerter unterscheiden sich kaum! Der größte Unterschied bei Hanwei ist wohl, dass man ein bisschen Glück haben muss, um kein halbfertiges Schwert zu erwischen (scharfe Kanten usw.) oder eine falsch gehärtete Angel (kam wohl bei den ersten Produktionen vor).

Wunderschönes und robustes Schwert

Ein wirklich schönes Schwert mit exzellenter Verarbeitung. Die Klinge ist absolut gerade und alles fest. Allerdings könnte die Politur der Klinge besser sein. Dennoch bin ich insgesamt sehr zufrieden.
