Bishop's Mantle made of Riveted Aluminium Rings
A bishop's mantle is a chain mail collar covering the neck, the shoulders and the upper part of the chest and back. It was particularly favoured by the German Landknechte (mercenary soldiers) in the 15th and 16th centuries and is woven similarly to a mail coif. The shape of this piece of chain armour explains its name, as it greatly resembled the very wide-cut collar of a bishop's mantle.
The bishop's mantles made by Ulfberth are modeled on historical examples. They feature a jagged edge. A riveted leather liner protects the area around the neck and the neckline is adjustable by means of straps and genuine late medieval brass buckles.
The ARR-weave: The type of chainmail is made of aluminium rings with domed rivet heads, with all rings riveted. This particular weave is called ARR Aluminium Round Riveted.
The advantage of this weave is obviously its relatively low weight, which also explains why it is known as Mithril in the LARP scene. The maille has got a matte grey finish which gives the aluminum a steel look.
Details:
- Material: aluminium in dark grey steel finish- Riveted round rings with domed rivet heads
- Large enough to cover the shoulders
- Jagged edge
- Inner diameter: approx. 8 mm
- Ring thickness: approx. 1.6 mm
- Weight: approx. 1.4 kg
