Gladius Pompeii, Windlass
The light and the efficient – this is what the Gladius was known as among ancient Roman army. It was the principal sidearm as it could be efficiently used in any close combat situation. Pompeii was one of the later versions. For a deeper analysis, “What the Soldiers Wore on Hadrian’s Wal”, a book by Russell Robinson can be consulted. In this version of Pompeii the curvature was eliminated and the point was diminished. However, it was equally effective and easy to produce. Made of high carbon steel, this replica features a turned ash and maple handle.
Includes matching wooden scabbard with leather cover and brass applications.
Made by Windlass Steelcrafts.
Please note that this Gladius is not a battle-ready weapon. It is designed as a collector’s or decoration/display piece and is not suited for combat re-enactment. Besides its quality as a collectible, it is also perfectly suited as a prop, e.g. to complete your costume.
