Maintz Pattern Gladius, Windlass

The Roman army pursued a direct and pragmatic approach to warfare. The Gladius was chosen as its principal sidearm, as it was practical and efficient and excelled in any close combat situation. With this sword they conquered most of the then known world. The original examples of this replica were excavated in the ruins of Pompeii. Examples can be found in the book "What The Soldiers Wore On Hadrian's Wall" by H. Russell Robinson.

The early Gladius, like this version based on the Maintz pattern, had a wasp waist and a long point that combined cutting and stabbing ability in one handy weapon. This replica based on the Maintz pattern has a bone grip with ornate brass applications on the scabbard. Made from high-carbon steel by Windlass Steelcrafts and comes factory sharp.

Includes matching Wooden scabbard with leather cover and brass applications.
