Product information "Moonbrand Arming Sword with Scabbard, 13th C"
Moonbrand Arming Sword with Scabbard, 13th C.

This beautiful arming sword is a replica of a well-preserved find dating back to the 13th century. The original was owned for 50 years by the well-known British collector and amateur historian Ewart Oakeshott. This very sword served him as a reference for the type XIV of his typology of medieval swords. He was also the one who named the sword Moonbrand. Since 2002, it is part of the collection of the “Oakeshott Institute of Arms and Armour” in Minneapolis, Minnesota, which was founded by Oakeshott himself.

This reconstruction features a broad blade that tapers evenly towards the tip and has four fullers on both sides. The cutting edges are not sharpened and the full tang is riveted to the pommel. The hilt consists of a wooden grip covered in light brown leather, a crossguard that curves towards the blade, and a generously sized wheel pommel. The guard and pommel are both made of solid steel.

The sword comes complete with a brown wood-and-leather scabbard.

This medieval sword is designed as a collector’s or decoration/display piece. Besides its quality as a collectible, it is also perfectly suited as a prop, e.g. to complete your costume.
