Practical Bastard Sword, blunt re-enactment sword, SK-B
The strong and fearless Swiss and Germans originally carried these early weapons, although bastard swords soon became popular in other regions such as the British Isles and Europe.
The term bastard undoubtedly comes from the fact that the sword, because of its design, has no legitimate claim to being classified as either a single-handed or a two-handed weapon. The one-and-a-half-handed sword was a weapon developed for the use of the foot soldier and had become quite common by the early 1500's. The combat styles developed for the hand-and-a-half sword were the particular specialty of the Northern European cultures, with the German nations being quite active in its development and use.
By customer request, the sword maker Paul Chen developed a re-enactment version of the regular Hanwei bastard sword (Product No. HN-SH2250).
The blade is forged out of 5160 high carbon steel to minimize burring and provide adequate strength for re-enactment use. Additionally, the transverse thickness of the guard has been increased to present a safer profile at its ends. Another innovation is the provision of an all-leather scabbard instead of the rigid scabbards normally provided with the Hanwei practical swords. This is both designed to provide an extra margin of safety when combatants fall on the scabbard in battle and to minimize the need for replacement scabbards. The sword is supplied with the grip and scabbard in a neutral-coloured leather to allow customization to your own taste.

Please note:
Our swords referred to as battle-ready or practical are designed to suit the needs of historical re-enactment / stage fighting and to practice swordplay. The extremely brutal impact of cutting edge against cutting edge (or any other hard object) cannot be considered an appropriate use of these swords and may eventually lead to the breaking of the blade. The warranty we offer in such a case only covers material defects (e.g. hairline cracks in the blade or processing faults). It does not apply to damages resulting from a destructive or inappropriate handling of these swords. Please also bear in mind that a practical sword is basically and essentially an item subject to wear and tear.
