Bring a piece of Roman history into your home with the Nydam Sword. The sword not only impresses with its outstanding design and first-class workmanship, but is also extremely affordable.
This beautiful sword is a replica of an original Roman sword found at Nydam Bog (Nydam Mose), an archaeological site near Sønderborg, Denmark. It was used as a sacrificial bog in the period from 240 to 480 AD, and a large number of archaeological finds have been made there since the 18th century. During the excavations by the Danish archaeologist Conrad Engelhardt between 1859 and 1863, not only the famous Nydam Boat was discovered, but also a large number of weapons. The Danish National Museum, which continued the excavations in 1989, found even more weapons, such as swords, spears and lances. Among these historic finds is the original of this sword, which is now in the collection of the Archaeological Museum at Gottorf Castle in Schleswig, Germany.
This beautiful reconstruction of the Roman sword has an approx. 74 cm long blade with two fullers and unsharpened cutting edges. The blade’s full tang is screwed to the pommel. The wooden hilt provides a safe and comfortable grip. The oval, flattened pommel and the guard are also made of wood.
The sword comes with a brown wood/leather scabbard with a throat and chape. For easy transportation, the scabbard is equipped with a practical wooden belt loop, which is suitable for belts with a width of approx. 5 cm.
This roman sword is designed as a collectors or decoration/display piece and, besides its quality as a collectible, is also perfectly suited as a prop, e.g. to complete your costume.
