Great Helmet of Rieter von Kornburg, Nuremberg circa 1375, 1.6 mm steel
- Battle-Ready-
This Great Helmet is a reproduction of a late medieval helm owned by the family Rieter von Kornburg and found in their tomb in the Allerheiligenkirche Kleinschwarzenlohe, Germany.
The family Rieter von Kornburg (=Knights of Kornburg) were medieval patricians, evidently living in Nuremberg since 1361. The helmet is dated around 1375 and is thought to have been made in the armourer's yard in Nuremberg. Today it is exhibited in the Germanische Nationalmuseum (GNM) in Nuremberg.
Our reconstruction is hand-made of 1.6 mm steel. All steel parts as well as the brass fittings on the front have been riveted with brass rivets. On the original piece, the fittings were just painted.
The helmet features a chainmail aventail from butted springsteel rings (BTW), a very comfortable, adjustable and padded liner as well as a riveted leather chin strap with brass buckle.
Available in two sizes: Medium and Large.
Details:
- Material: 1.6 mm steel
- Comes with chain mail aventail made of butted springsteel rings with an internal diameter of 8 mm
- Incl. a riveted padded cloth liner and leather chin strap
- Finish: blued and lightly oiled
