English 15th Century Falchion
The original of this late 15th century English infantry sword or falchion has been in the Royal Armouries collection since 1916 (object number IX.144.). Its exact origin before that time is unknown.
This type of short sword was a popular sidearm for billmen and archers during the Wars of the Roses and into the early Tudor period. Thousands of such swords were used in battles such as Towton, Barnet, Tewkesbury and Bosworth.
This example has a single-edged blade with subtle transitions along the cross-section, a clever hollow grind, and a fuller. The graceful blade has a slender but strong tip and a thick spine that could withstand the rigours of combat against armoured opponents in jacks, chainmail and plate.
This replica is crafted with a hand-forged blade by a skilled blacksmith using modern 1080 high-carbon steel that is fully tempered and distally tapered for proper weight distribution.
The scabbard is made with a wooden core and covered with leather. The tip is reinforced with a brass chape. At the throat, the leather extends upward and covers part of the guard.
Includes a certificate of authenticity and a polishing cloth.

- Blade length: approx. 68.5 cm
