Medieval Bascinet with Hinged Visor, 1.6 mm Steel

The bascinet came up in the early 14th century. It evolved from the so-called cervelliere or secret helmet (a simple skull cap) and remained a popular helmet well into the 15th century throughout Central Europe.

This reconstruction of a late medieval bascinet is crafted from 1.6 mm (16 gauge) steel and has a polished surface. The helm is equipped with a hinged, fully detachable face guard which is securely held in position with pins and chains. This visor features a rectangular, approx. 2 to 2.5 cm wide eye-slit as well as numerous round cutouts on its lower half for proper ventilation.

The helmet's interior is fitted with a thin leather inlay attached to the bowl with rivets. The 2 mm thick black leather chin strap closes with a steel buckle.

Jahrhundert handelt.
